There is a story about the two photos, above, of a leaf. The leaf falling into the cup was an accident at the gathering to celebrate the life of my friend Carl Madson. (See https://www.flickr.com/photos/cmphoto/) Carl was very important to me: he helped save me from dropping photography. When the leaf fell, I and everyone around instantly recognized that it was an art shot waiting to happen, something Carl would have seized upon. I saved the leaf and then took the photo on the right with flash.
Interestingly (to me anyway), I was getting blurry shadows until I figured out that I needed almost a pinhole flash, which I realized meant that the sun, in the other photo, was coming thru a gap in leaves on trees in the distance. The gap was a natural pinhole: I'd seen the effect before in a photo of an eclipse.
